Abby Board and Train day 2

This is actually yesterday's post. I went to bed early and blogging completely slipped my mind.

What a turn around Abby has had! She is no longer "hitting the decks" all the time but has learned and is mastering Heel/Autosit, Down, Come, and Implied Stay. She still makes plenty of puppy mistakes and needs corrections now and then but what she has mostly needed is encouragement.

We think she will be ready to try out her Dogtra Collar tomorrow and will soon be off leash. We won't remove the leash, however until she understands the collar and has shown us that her recall is fairly reliable.

Sorry we missed blogging yesterday. Posting completely slipped my mind and I went to bed early.

Morgan is doing great. We have started doing the Come command at longer distances (though still on leash) and she is getting better. She still tends to come in the right direction but get distracted or simple stroll right past you but she is improving.

Her other commands are coming on nicely and I feel confident that she will be ready to go home when her owners pick her up.

She had fun yesterday because she got to spend most of the day in the house when we weren't working and got in some good cuddle time.

Today we are still working on Recall and on sorting out some loose ends with her commands. She still likes to pop back up right after laying down, however, now she is popping up and then immediately back down in a sort of puppy push-up. She is a goofy dog.

I love it when my Puppy Preschool pups get to come back for training. Seeing the happy adult dogs they have become is such a treat. Abby is a young, female, Golden who is here for 10 days of training on an electronic collar. She has a very sweet nature but is what we call a "hit the decks" dog. This means that if something scares her or if she doesn't like something she will "hit the decks" and drop to the ground.

This happened a lot today as she was so unsure of her newish surroundings. At one point she refused to sit and just wanted to lay on my feet. But after she pitched a tiny fit she was happy to Heel next to me and Sit with only a little bit of resistance.

She is very nervous right now but once she realizes that she will be fed here and make friends and be kept warm she will relax. We spent some time watching TV tonight and she learned that the cats are actually quite sharp. But she made a friend in the form of Ace, the pit bull, and enjoyed playing with him. Abby only needed a few reminders to stay off the furniture. It helped that the pointy cats were on the couch and were not too impressed with her.

Tomorrow we are going to work some more on introducing her to her new obedient life style.

Morgan is doing just fine. She is happier to comply with commands without complaining and is doing better with Recall all the time. Tomorrow I am going to put her on a long line (20') to work on her long distance recall because she still toils there at times.

I think we are going to up her exercise because she seems to be getting a tiny bit bored with the routine. But she loves Place and happily rested there for an hour and only needed one verbal reminder during that time.

All in all, she is doing just fine and we are loving her little attitude.
