Tomorrow we are proofing some things and taking her go-home video. I am very pleased with her progress.
Raven had a challenging day today. On top of working on all of her usual obedience we really pushed the in-home obedience skills. We worked on Placemat, door manners, greeting people politely, etc. She did well but is still a bit of a distractable puppy and so mistakes were made here and there. But by the time the third person came to the door she stayed on Placemat the entire time and greeted the guest very nicely, though she was still excited.

Cute little Raven had a decent day today. We took a nice long walk and had a few good workouts. We're fine tuning a lot and she is coming out of her shell nicely. She still toils with Down a little bit but she is getting faster every day.
Tomorrow it is more of the same but on Wednesday I am looking forward to her house time because we will be practicing door manners. I am having some friends over and every time someone comes to the door she will be there to practice being polite and well behaved while people come into the house. Right now she is snoozing in her crate. For the most part she has been a delightful house guest. She still gets up to some puppy antics but she wants to please and is a very sweet and funny dog. Raven is doing well! My internet (along with many people in the country it seems) has been down for most of the weekend so I have not been able to update but Raven is coming right along. Her Heel and Autosit are great. Her Down is reluctant but she is making steady improvements. Implied Stay is getting there. Her Come command while wearing her leash is good but off the leash is a different story. She has learned to try to slip off and hide instead of coming when called (she is only ever off leash in the fenced yard during play time and while in the house) and so it is imperative that more work be done with her off-leash recall before she be trusted without a leash when she goes home.
Saturday was a bit of a boring day for her because I had lessons from 11-5 but she got her play time and her house time like normal. Today we had a couple good workouts and I am looking forward to the warmer temperatures because I want to take her on a nice long walk tomorrow either Down Town or on the river trail near my house. Either way I will update on how she does. Raven is making nice progress though and I am enjoying working with her. Yesterday, Raven, a sweet little mixed breed dog arrived for one week of training. She has a very soft and willing to please disposition coupled with a feisty side. She has settled in nicely and has been playing well with the other dogs. She sometimes overwhelms Noah, my toddler, but it's always coming from a place of excitement and playfulness.
We have so far introduced her to a small pinch collar and worked hard on her leash manners. We have also introduced Implied Stay and for her Sit and Down commands. She is learning well but definitely has some puppy impulse control to overcome. Raven is a special pup. She does not like her crate but has been doing a great job of staying quiet while crated. She has also done okay so far with the house cat, though she definitely would chase her if Kimono were to run. Luckily Kimono knows better. I am looking forward to some warmer weather so that Raven and I might spend more time outside. For now she is quietly enjoying a nylabone she stole from Ace and is relaxing in her kennel. |
