Her placemat is going well but she still need help initially. She may need to be guided onto the mat sometimes but once she is there she is doing very well about staying out.
This pup will be missed! She is such a happy and special girl!
We are winding things down for our friend Goober. She knows her commands now but she is still only 5 months old (almost six now) and gets distracted or frightened sometimes. Interestingly enough, off leash she has a little bit of trouble staying in a heel. She will sometimes just stop walking and look around like she forgot what she was doing. I guess we all have those moments sometimes.

I am very pleased with the progress this girl has made. She is now completely off leash in the training room and she is keeping steady focus most of the time. Outside I have her dragging a 20 foot leash and she stays with me very well. Every so often she trots ahead but I can get her back in line with a verbal correction only. I plan to work her in the fenced garden as soon as it dries out in there (I have too much experience with Goldens when there is mud around) and that will allow me to remove the leash completely outdoors. I don't expect her to be perfect. She is still very young. I plan to get to a point where I have a decent amount if control, though. I need to start at square one again with Place. She just doesn't seem to get it yet.
In the house she can still be a bit high strung. There isn't much to do about her bubbly, happy-go-lucky personality. It is just who she is. But! We are getting somewhere with basic house manners. She is showing much greater self control about jumping on people and furniture. She also will stop zooming around if told to firmly. All in all- Goober is still a puppy and will be for another year at least. But she is quickly becoming more maneagable. And she can melt a whole room with her smile. |
