Ava Board and Train day 2

Boing! Boing! Boing! What a happy girl I have on my hands. She is so sweet and likes to try to "cute" her way out of work. But she enjoys praise and so we had a productive day today. We worked on Heel/Autosit some more and she did very well. We are now sitting automatically about 50% of the time. Her implied stay is pretty good unless she things I am going somewhere fun (like the end of the leash), then she gets up and pounces over to me.
Come is so-so. She always comes when called but it is the stopping herself and sitting down that is so hard. She either boings right past me or runs into me trying to get a hug. During her last workout she did it perfectly, though, and came nicely, sat down like a lady, and waited for her pat.
Much of this behavior is puppy silliness and while she will always be silly she will mature a little bit as she gets older. She isn't defiant so much as she is just so happy about people, and dogs, and squirrels, and leaves, and butterflies, and [fill in the blank] that her attention span is about a second long. But she will gain focus the more we expect it of her.
We are also starting her on an exercise routine. Like many labs she could stand to have a slightly trimmer midsection. Now that she knows Heel we are going to start light jogging next to a bike. We won't be doing anything really extreme because she is still pretty young and shouldn't be doing too much high impact activity until she is full grown. But being overweight is just as bad for her so we will do some light working out while she is here.
Tomorrow we are going to work on Down and Stay and we are also going to try a bike ride and see how she does. She is a good girl and has been making me laugh many times a day.

I'm glad Ava is settling in. I'm excited to see how she does with a bike ride
Eventually Terry would like her to be his running partner. Right now she runs all over . She crosses infront of him ,next to him and knocks into him. He's afraid she'll trip him and he'll break a leg. Any progress in helping her learn to heel in a jogging walk would be great.
I'm glad you enjoy her quirky personality. We miss her
