As I sit here and write today's blog Baxter is displaying a very decent "Bed" command (aka "Place") across the room. He's been in his bed with no crate for going on 20 minutes. We are aiming for 45 minutes total and then it's Dane's turn. Today's weather has made today's exercise necessary because Baxter is just about as interested in outdoor obedience in the rain as I am. We did a quickie 10 minute workout and got all soggy and then came back inside to finish the workout in the training room.
The leash has come off completely inside and he is dragging a leash outdoors. He is around %50 reliable off leash. Half of the time he is spot on and the other half he gets the Yorkie Twinkle in his eye and makes a dash for it. He is learning that he always gets busted when he does that but sometimes the fun of making a fool of the dog trainer is just too much.
(BTW he is still doing great on his bed. He is sitting in it with his front feet on the floor. His Yellow Monkey is quickly becoming his Bed Buddy.)
Soon all of my trainer energies will be focused on him as Dane gets ready to go home and over the next day or two I am hoping to have his obedience to a place where I can start REALLY pushing the distractions. Some treats and toys around the floor in the training room and outdoors we are going to have some strange dogs working around him that he does NOT get to say hi to or shout at. Should be a challenge for him but he definitely has the focus to get it done.
