We are officially past the halfway mark with Chewie and he is doing so well! He is such a smarty pants which is a good thing but it lends itself to the tendency to be a little strong willed and stubborn. He has really started to enjoy the work but you can see it in his face that he does get a little pouty when he gets the answer wrong. His Down command has gotten really good. His Implied Stay is what we focused on today and it has gotten decent as well. Self restraint is hard for him and so this is why I have waited to do Placemat. I plan to do that tomorrow since he finally showed me today that he can, in fact, hold himself back and not just hop up and follow me or start playing in the leaves.
Right now he is playing a house-shaking game of tag with Ace. The older dogs are watching with looks of benign disapproval and the cat has disappeared. But the young guys are having fun and getting some exercise so we will let them stampede up and down the living room.
I am having a lot of fun training this clown and I am looking forward to seeing how he does with Placemat.
