Hayes had a very big day today. His understanding of Heel/Autosit is getting better with each workout. He is doing fairly well with Implied Stay in the Sit. He still has a hard time when I am walking behind him but I was able to crouch down to his face level and he stayed put instead of oozing into my lap. His reward for this was, of course, an invitation into my lap after 15 seconds of very difficult waiting.
We are getting somewhere with Down as well. He will lay down maybe half the time without needing to be told twice. He gets distracted pretty quickly and it is very difficult not to fall victim to his cuteness as he rolls over onto his back and plays with his feet or with a bug he made friends with.
We started Recall today and he did very well. He sometimes runs into me but he always sits when he gets to me. He is obviously trying very hard not to jump up and he is doing pretty well with his self restraint.
He made a new best friend today in the form of Loki. Loki is a delightful Shepherd mix who was with us a few months ago. His people are going out of town and so Loki is with us again for some freshening up of his skills. It was a bromance at first sight between these two and they play very nicely together. Perhaps they have met before because they both go to the same boarding kennel sometimes. They enjoyed some good wrestling and pouncing today and Hayes was very respectful when Loki communicated that jumping up on his shoulders was not okay.
Tomorrow is a full work day for Hayes and we will hopefully make good progress on his obedience. I think he will be ready for Placemat tomorrow!
