Lexi had a better day today. She learned well and was receptive to praise. She has such an overabundance of energy it is difficult to really get her tuckered out. I may see if she likes running next to the bike tomorrow. It is for dogs like these that I wish I had a treadmill. When she is feeling cooperative she gets things so quickly. Then there are times that she gets sassy and will just sit and stare at me. Moving her on from this is simple. She can never win. Even if we just worked for 30 minutes, if she throws up a road block we are going to work until she does it without battling me. If I stop a lesson while she is arguing with me all she will learn is that if she argues with me enough I will quit bothering her. So whenever she puts the breaks on she gets to do whatever we were working on 5 more times. So far it has been a good system. Her other bad habit is running from me when she doesn't want to do something and then she gets anxious (see Lexi day 3) because she knows that's a big No-No.
Tomorrow we are going to keep on working on the obedience and her manners. She is sometimes so ladylike and polite and then other times she acts like she has a firecracker on her tail. She is a silly girl.
Today we really pushed Recall and Down from the Front. We also started motion commands. On a funny note, Lexi learned that donkeys are terrifying and that trees are solid, no matter how fast one is going.
