Today we started Heel/Auto Sit. He did just fine. He accepted the collar without any back talk and while he did need a few short corrections at first, he was walking on a loose leash after about 10 minutes. He will sit when I stop but is still relying on the leash to tell him that we have stopped. He isn't focussed enough yet to realize that he needs to stop when I stop, not just when he gets to the end of the leash. But he was not pulling at all by the end of his first workout. This was in a very low distraction setting. Things will get more challenging as the week goes on but so far so good. Welcome, Oscar!
Oscar arrived this afternoon for 10 days of advanced obedience training. His big goal is walking on a loose leash. He has had a bit of training already but still struggles with self restraint. I plan to teach him that it is his job to hold himself back, not the leash's. He will eventually be trained on an electronic collar but for now is just on a small pinch collar. This collar will help me teach him what is expected of him. Once he knows the new rules I will move him on to the electronic collar which will give him more freedom and his owner an easier time letting him run and play safely.
