We went on a long walk in the busy North Lawrence neighborhoods today. We passed lemonade stands, children playing, lawn mowers, other dogs, and even a kitty who was strolling around the sidewalks. Reggie took most of this in stride though some things scared him a little. He stayed in command most of the time, needing a correction for the Heel only occasionally. He greeted some little girls politely even though they had popsicles. He did try to have a taste of one of the popsicles when it was lowered to where he could easily reach it but I was able to correct him before he managed to take it.
He laid down on the sidewalk and held his Implied Stay well. He struggles more with the Implied Stay in the house than he does outside because he gets bored I think. He does still occasionally put the breaks on and tries to stop walking but some encouragement and basically not letting him stop gets him going again quickly. He is just testing the waters when he does this and he is trying to see if it will work. So when he randomly stops and tries to refuse to move it is important that his walker win this little argument.
Overall, Reggie is doing great. I have one more full day with him so tomorrow I will take his go-home video and get him all finished up to go home. He is a special dog indeed.
