Findley is a foxy little mixed breed puppy who is here for 2 weeks of advanced obedience training. She is a quick little girl and you can tell she is sharp just by looking at her. But she is also affectionate and soft natured and so motivating her will be simple.
We started today very simple and just worked on leash manners, Heel, Sit and Down. Tomorrow we will lay the foundation for Implied Stay and Come and then we will start grooming her for off-leash later this week.
She has settled in nicely and she likes Ace a lot. The other puppy here, Maci, plays a bit too rambunctiously for Findley's taste but they are learning how to play together so that everyone has fun. They both want to be friends so it's just a matter of figuring out a game they both enjoy.
So far Findley seems stoic and sweet but also cuddly and funny. I think she will have a lot of fun with the training once we know each other a little better. For now she seems like she is mostly trying to figure me out and is wondering why I think I get to boss her around like this. She is already starting to understand the reward system and physical touch is definitely an incentive for her. She was soliciting attention by the end of her workouts today and trying to get the answer right so she could get a cuddle. She has attention span for a dog her age (which is a polite way of saying it's a short attention span but it will get better as she matures) and so as it continues to grow her workouts can go longer and pretty soon obedience will be her way of life.
