Here is what some of our past customers have had to say:
Emily at Free State K9 was great for our dog! Our dog is a 1 yr old Cockapoo who is ridiculously prone to bolting, and then not coming when he is called. Emily helped us work on basic commands, which taught him to respond to us as we need. From sit, stay, down, come, and some stop-bolting techniques, Emily was a great help. I wholeheartedly recommend Emily, and we will definitely hire her again when we want to move beyond basic commands.
Thanks,
Sarah
I must say that having Emily train myself and Coby, my golden-doodle, was so helpful. After two lessons we are now able to walk together with Coby being attentive to what I want him to do. He doesn't pull on the leash anymore so it is more fun to go on walks together. Plus I like how he behaves. I think he has more readiness to be attentive also. I loved the way Emily had insights into my dogs personality and had great imitations that made learning fun. I would like to recommend Emily to Lawrence dog owners. It was a great experience to have her training.

Emily was a life-saver when it came to our new chihuahua-mix dog, Bullet. Bullet loved to play "chase me" every time you told her to "come" and generally believed she was the boss of the house (as most chihuahuas do). Since Emily worked with us and Bullet, Bullet is now a wonderfully-behaved dog. She comes almost 100% of the time when called, and walks beautifully on a leash. I never thought that small dogs could be trained like big dogs, but Emily proved that belief wrong. You can train a small dog almost exactly the same way as a big dog, you just have to be firm and consistent and have the correct guidance from a trained professional. Emily pointed out a lot of little things we were doing that communicated something to Bullet that we never intended to communicate! Bullet is such a joy to be around now and I think she is happier too! Thanks, Emily!

Emily at Freestate K-9 was wonderful to work with. She has so much insight into your dog and his needs and quirks. Phineus (my 50lb goldendoodle) has become well mannered and a joy to be around. He has learned all the following commands: sit, down, stay, come. He is even walking off leash without any problems. None of this would have been possible without Emily's training and guidance. I recommend Emily to all that want to have a faithful, well mannered companion.

Emily is the answer to your prayers if you have a dog that needs a little or a lot help in the obedience realm.
Her ten days of work with my dog Rihm has given both Rihm and I a solid platform of communication by which we can more enjoy one another's company on jogs, walks, hikes, and adventures. Before Rihm and I met Emily, he liked to lunge at anything fuzzy that moved, and sometimes inanimate fuzzies. If he got fixed on something, like the horizon, there was no stopping him. That was scary for me. I worried that he was going to hurt himself, and potentially hurt something or someone else, even though he is not aggressive. After ten days of training with Emily he listens to me. Instead of dragging me on walks, he heels at my side. People that used to pass us on our walks would joke that he was walking me- not any more! I can now let him off leash too without the fear of losing him because I know he will listen when I call him to my side. That is all due to Emily's training. What's more, much of his energy is channeled into his listening. In this way, good behavior is work, or an activity for him, and not a hinderance to his free playtime. Without changing his character, Emily has enabled Rihm to be a gentleman when I need him to be. Emily- You are amazing! Rihm and I thank you.

The dog we brought home from your place was a much changed dog. She is calmer and much easier to handle even though she is still a goof-ball exciteable puppy. We feel we have learned as much from you as she has and we certainly thank you for that. The entire time she was with you we felt confident that she was in gentle loving hands. We are very impressed with your professionalism and your skill. Clearly, you have learned how to 'think like a dog' and when combined with your warm heart this makes for a perfect trainer. We look forward to working with you in the future as this puppy matures. I am very very grateful that we found FreeState K-9.

Emily was a Godsend! After I adopted Roxy (my six year old bull terrier) from a shelter, she started fighting with my other two dogs. The fights escalated to the point that I thought I was going to have to rehome her. Luckily the shelter referred me to Emily. She came out and evaluated Roxy and determined that she would eventually be able to coexist with my other dogs. Thanks to Emily's knowledge in dog training and her ability to read dogs, my pack is now living and even playing happily together. Thank you Emily!!!

Emily at FreeState K9 is amazing! I never would've thought such progress could be made in such a short time.
I took our two, 12 month old, German Shepherd siblings to her for the 10 day off-leash board and train program. I was fairly happy with the dogs before this adventure but definitely needed someone skilled to work with our two smarty-pants. Of course there was leash pulling, jumping, etc. I found myself having trouble working with two dogs at once or even working with one, while the other was in a pen. There were moments that they were too concerned with each other and not enough about what I was wanting.
After just 10 days with Emily, Dexter and Kimber are much improved! They are SO much more attentive to me, my words and my actions. They know everything that the 10 day board and train ensures. They are still young, goofy babies at times, so I will enjoy working and building on the solid foundation that Emily has laid.
I really appreciated that Emily's goal is never to make "robot dogs." I love how she does a daily blog to keep families up to date on their furry kids.
I would recommend FreeStateK9, it was a great experience for us!

Before we started training with Emily at Free State K9, my dog Rhea was incredibly stubborn and untrained. She was so strong that she'd drag us down the street when we took her on walks, even when we used training collars and harnesses. She thought she was the queen of the house and would bark, jump up, and bite us when she didn't get her way.
However, once we started training with Emily, everything changed. With lots of help, we trained Rhea to be off leash outside (something we were sure we would never be able to do), she now walks on leash without pulling at all, never has any of her "temper tantrums" anymore, and is an all around well-behaved pup. At times, it even seemed as though Emily was magic, because her methods worked almost instantly.
I am very thankful to Emily for helping us with this, as we were starting to think that Rhea could never be a well behaved dog. I would recommend her to any dog owner looking to get training for their dog, because she has truly changed our lives for the better.
