Chakra Board and Train day 3

Sweet, puffy, Chakra did great today. We did not introduce anything new but yesterday was so heavy with new things we had a ton to work on. Heel is getting better, Down has improved as has her Implied Stay. Her Come is good on leash, and it's improving greatly off-leash with the remote. She really would rather finish whatever she is doing before coming back but she is starting to understand that I need a pretty sharp turn around when she is called off-leash.
She is working hard and her mood was playful and silly today so I feel good that we don't seem to be over working her at all.
Tomorrow we are still working on her obedience and I hope to avoid the rain by working on Placemat. She has been polite and playful in the house.

Chakra got here on Monday but because of the holiday I didn't get a blog posted. She is a sweet and very puppyish Komondor/Pyrenees mix who need off-leash training. She has settled in nicely after being quite shy and nervous on Monday. She has made very sweet friends with the Golden Retreiver I am Boarding and they have a blast playing in the yard. She is intimidated by my older dogs but she is learning how to navigate their fussy social habits.
Because she was so nervous yesterday we kept it very light and easy. Today we introduced Heel, Autosit, Down, and Come. She did fair in everything except for Heel. She really wants to bounce around and so she isn't super thrilled about loose leash walking but she is getting closer. I think she will catch on quickly but because of her breed mix I would be shocked if she did not put her own spin on this training. I am already enjoying her very much.

Tonks Board and Train day 6

My pal Tonks had a fantastic day. She ran around the farm and got quite wet and muddy. She came when called each time and only needed to be buzzed once when she wanted to roll in something smelly.
She also had two flawless (seriously. Not one correction) off-leash workouts. Unfortunately she did not like the thunder so we stayed inside during the storm. But the workouts that we were able to do outside were beautiful.
Now, I must tattle on her a little because she did get into trouble today. She stole a chicken nugget from Noah's lunch today. She can't be blamed alone though because Noah did leave his plate unguarded on the low coffee table. It took a verbal no (without correction from the collar) to get her to leave the food alone but alas, one chicken nugget was her prize.
She is snoozing quietly on Placemat right now and I am about to get her up to go to her crate for bed. I am extremely pleased with today and I'm glad tomorrow is Sunday because I feel like she has earned a morning off.

Tonks will be completely off-leash tomorrow. She did a fantastic job as my helper today. For a few of my lessons that needed a calm and under-control helper dog, Tonks was brought out to fill that role. Other than being slightly nervous she did just fine. She also had a nice long off-leash walk at the farm today and so I plan to have her completely without a leash tomorrow for her normal workouts.
In the house she is doing very well. For the first time in a few days she tried to counter surf but all it took was a sharp "no" to bring her down without any correction from her collar.
Overall she is doing splendidly.

Smokey Reboot day 2

Smokey is still doing stellar on his obedience. We spent a lot of time in the house today and he hasn't really been showing us the excitable tendencies his dad told me about. Tomorrow I am looking forward to really putting him through his paces because we are having dinner guests and it is my understanding that visitors tend to trigger a lot of excitement and poor manners for Smokey. Hopefully we can work on addressing those tomorrow.
We re-introduced Placemat today and he was slow to pick it up again but got there after the second or third correction. We will continue this tomorrow as the exciting new people arrive. Smokey is a celebrator and so I am sure that the prospect of new friends will give us a lot to work on. So far he has been a quiet and polite guest!

Tonks had a fun day today. We went to the farm and we had a few lessons on a 20' lead and the remote collar. We also had some play time completely off-leash and she stuck around nicely. She is nice and sensitive to the collar so her corrections have been between levels 6-8 (of 100).
She spent much of the evening in the house with the kids and has been nothing but sweet with them. She even gave kisses when Noah (3) tried to pick her up briefly before I could intervene. She struggles to sit still when the kids are active but as their novelty wore off she took a nap and ignored them.
Tomorrow is a weird day for me work-wise so Tonks might a little more down time than she did today but her workout schedule should remain what it has been. She is doing great.

Smokey Reboot Day 1

Smokey the Weimaraner was trained here about a year ago and he is back for a brief refresher. He is still a bit excitable when it comes to greeting guests and we are going to reteach Placemat.
I was very pleased today to see how well he has retained the foundation of his training. It shouldn't be hard to clean up his manners a little. Most likely he will benefit from some high expectations when he returns home.
It is always fun to get to see my old students again and I am enjoying working with Smokey again. He has settled in just fine and tomorrow we will be working a lot in and out of the house. He is a sweet guy who genuinely wants to get the answer right but he does tend to over celebrate at times. It's not a terrible quality to have in the long run. He certainly makes us laugh.

Tonks is a sweet little chocolate terrier mix who is here for a week to continue her training. Her owners trained her on-leash through basic obedience and now I am going to take her a bit further by introducing her to a remote collar and getting her off the leash.
Today we did a refresher of her on-leash and introduced her to her new collar. I was pleased with how well she had retained everything and I think we will be able to get her off the leash in a couple days.
She has settled in well and is getting along with everyone (dogs and kids) just fine. My 3 year old thinks she is very cute even though she knocks his toys over. I am going to have her on her new collar all day tomorrow to work on house manners and she is coming to the farm with me for some long line work. I am excited to see how she shapes up this week!

Bella Board and Train day 3

Bella had a great day. We did not get around to going downtown today but she did some great work in the neighborhood. Her leash manners are getting pretty stellar with her pinch collar. She still startles now and then (a cyclist was a little scary and she wanted to keep a close eye on a jogger) but I never lost her focus completely. Implied Stay and Down are getting very solid. We need to do some longer work with Placemat during times of regular household commotion. That is on the docket for tomorrow as well as continuing to work on her obedience. I am very happy with how well she has done today. Looking forward to taking her downtown soon.
