Bowser Board and Train day 5

Bowser had his first off-leash workout with his remote collar today. He is doing so well. Still a little flighty about being off-leash. He gets nervous and wants to go back to his bed so we are taking things slow and steady and building his confidence. But I hope he starts enjoying his off-leash time more as the week goes on.
This afternoon was a boring one. Halloween festivities with my kids meant he got less time in the house than usual but tomorrow is a pretty empty day for me and so we are going to make up for lost time.
His obedience is pretty good. Sometimes he moves in slow motion and it almost feels like he is rolling his eyes about the work (I’m immune to this cuteness bud, sorry) but he definitely knows his commands. We are just working on confidence and reliability now.
For now he and I are relaxing and watching a scary movie now that the kids are finally asleep. Happy Halloween!

Bowser is doing great. He has been introduced to all of his commands and we have started using his remote collar. It makes him a little nervous and he isn’t ready to not have a leash on but as we replace his corrections and he gets more and more used to the sensation of the collar he should feel better about it. He takes the tiniest little correction. Out of 100 levels he sits at level 8 which is a correction I can’t even feel! This is great because we always want to use the lowest level possible but he is so low that it is very easy to overcorrect him if his collar gets turned up accidentally. I have taken to locking his remote so that it doesn’t get turned up by accident since he is a bit of a softie.
In the house he has been a quiet and polite guest and outside he is inquisitive and playful. I hope to be able to give him some off leash time in a few days but for now we are just solidifying his obedience foundation and making sure he feels good about his remote and confident he knows the right answers. We don’t want him wondering what to do when we take that leash off! He is a bright boy and he is learning quickly!

Bowser had an alright day today. He threw a little temper tantrum during his first work out and did a lot of back talking but once he understood that things went faster if he didn’t pull and sat when I stopped the walk went a lot smoother he improved 10 fold. His other workouts were very smooth and cooperative. We started Heel, Auto Sit, Down, and Come today and he did great. Still needs corrections with a few things but he is enjoying praise and having a job.
He is also good buddies with the other dogs here and so he is getting a lot of play in during the afternoons. We’re still working on not bothering the chickens but he should hopefully be more trustworthy with them by the time we take his leash off.

Bowser is a sweet young fellow. Part Boston Terrier and part Cattle Dog he has endless energy and yet so far he has been a fairly quiet house guest. He is here for 2 weeks of off-leash obedience using a remote collar as well as some manners clean up.
Today we kept things very simple as he got settled in. We worked on walking on a loose leash, sitting when we stopped and coming when called. He seemed to enjoy the easy work we did so I imagine he will enjoy it as we make it harder. He is a spunky dude so I imagine he will learn quickly and then start coming up with ways to put his own spin on things. He has a cute little sense of humor already.
Tomorrow we are doing more basics and we’re gonna work on not pestering the chickens since this important skill will determine whether or not he can be off his leash while they are enjoying the yard or not.
I am looking forward to getting this guy trained up. He is already proving to be a fun dog to work with. Look to Saturday evening for his next update.
