Milo Board and Train day 12

Milo is doing great! He is getting better and better off leash and is getting more confident. He is so sweet because when he knows he got the answer right he turns those big brown eyes on you and lets you know he is ready for his praise.
He is still a little unsure of himself in the heel but everything else is much more confident.
This weekend is gonna be a little boring for him until Sunday afternoon but then we will get right back to work. Until then he is gonna get a break with play time and walks but not a ton of work. But he is doing great and I’m proud of him.

Milo Board and Train day 10

Milo had all of his workouts off-leash today. He is pretty nervous without his leash on that he will make a mistake which usually leads to a mistake now and then. But even though he was nervous he was still looking to me for direction and reassurance and he never tried to bolt or run away. Tomorrow we are going to be working towards building his confidence which means a lot of short workouts, happy voices and being a little goofy with him to help him know that we are still having fun and he doesn't have to be quite so serious.
On the flip side, he is having SO much fun during off-leash play time. He flies around the yard with Ace and takes a lot of joy in being the fastest. He has been such a pleasant guest and an easy pack addition. He even left the chickens alone though his prey drive is still very high.
Milo isn't done yet but he is working hard every single day. What a good boy.

Oof, between the weather knocking out our internet, a friend’s wedding and the holiday I have not been up on Milo’s blogs which is a shame because he deserves to show off a bit. Milo is doing so well. He is off his leash for play time, walks and potty breaks. He has adapted well to the remote collar and even leaves the chickens alone (but oh he wants to chase them when they run). His obedience is still being done with a 30’ tether on so that I can back up his commands with the leash if he gets confused. But he is needing it less and less.
This week is all about getting his obedience up to speed with no tether on at all. He enjoys the freedom for sure and so I don’t see any issues on the horizon. He is one of the most willing-to-work dogs I’ve had in a while! I’m enjoying him a ton as we get deeper into his training.

Milo is doing great. Tomorrow I am going to introduce him to his remote collar and start him working towards off-leash obedience. Today we worked on the come command while he was distracted and that is going to be a big hurdle for him but he was making marked improvement by the end of the day and the remote will just help that process more.
The weather over the next few days is pretty crummy so we may be trying to do most of our work indoors but eventually we will need to bite the bullet and work in the rain.
He is right on track if not a little advanced for where I want him to be. He is enjoying training and getting some off-leash play time soon will be such a treat for him.

The storm last night kept me from introducing Milo properly but luckily our internet is back tonight. Milo is an absolutely charming chocolate pit bull boy. He is here for two weeks of advanced obedience plus a little extra boarding while his person travels. He hit the ground running with his obedience and he has already been introduced to Heel/Autosit, Implied Stay, Down at the side, Down from the front, and Come.
i want him on his prong collar for another day or so before introducing him to his remote but this fellow wants to RUN so we are working as quickly as we safely can towards his long distance come command so he can get some off-leash play time.
He is getting on great with the other dogs here but he is too much for the cat so far. Hopefully he calms down about her. He isn’t mean. Just chases her too much and she is annoyed with him.
Milo is working hard and making everything look easy.

Gino Board and Train day 11

As Gino’s time with me comes to a close I am mostly focusing on increasing his work stamina and working him around distractions. He is doing well and still has happy bursts of puppy playfulness but he is easy to correct back into working mode.
Like many of my boarders he has developed the habit of laying down automatically in the Heel instead of sitting automatically. Sometimes this happens because Down is overworked or inadvertently praised more than Sit so I am
upping his praise for the sit and cooling it a little in the Down to see if we can clean that up before he goes home.
He is a good boy and his work ethic has been impressive especially when considering he is younger than I typically accept for advanced obedience. He is going to grow into a really steady and stellar dog with just a little bit of maintenance on his obedience from his people.

Gino is really impressing me. He has had numerous off-leash workouts now and he is such a super star. He makes little puppy mistakes like sitting facing the wrong direction or instead of laying down just laying his face on the ground. But he knows his commands and he works very hard to do the right thing. He is focusing better and better and working for longer and longer lengths of time.
Tonight Gino met my mother and it wasn’t long before he was getting very spoiled with snuggles while they watched the news together. He has been a very polite house guest and he has charmed everyone except for the cat who is living in polite indifference to him. Right now he is snoring impressively loudly and sleeping soundly after an evening of playing with Ace and Dana.

Gino is working so hard. He has a good grasp of his commands and while he is still pretty easily distracted he is easy to get back on task. He sometimes gets intimidated by harsh tones of voice so I am careful to keep my words with him firm but calm and light. He really loves praise and he works for that more than he works to avoid correction.
Tomorrow I am going to introduce him to his remote collar and we will begin refining his obedience to off-leash reliability. I anticipate him being very sensitive to his collar and only needing very benign cues in order to communicate with him. He already has been enjoying off-leash play time and so switching gears to working off-leash also should be relatively straight forward. For now he is curled up on a dog bed entirely too large for him because he fell asleep there and I haven’t had the heart to move him to his kennel yet. He is such a sweet fellow.

Gino is doing great! Yesterday we didn’t do much because it was too stormy but we worked on house manners and Placemat. Today we did more basic obedience. Heel/Autosit, Implied Stay, Down, Come. He is doing decently with everything. He still gets a little bouncy with Heel but we are gonna give him a little grace there since he is so little.
He is surprisingly patient for a dog his age and his sent restraint is pretty well developed already though he still has impulsive moments.
Tomorrow we are gonna continue with his obedience in short 5-8 minute workouts coupled with lots of play and rest. He is a blast to work with and a very sweet personality to have around. Cane Corsos are clearly working dogs from day 1.
