Butch is a handsome fellow who looks like he could be Ace's brother. He is athletic and energetic and a little impulsive and this has lead him to be a bit of a pest at home. He is here for a week of obedience training to help him better communicate with his person. He has settled in nicely today and is good buddies with Ace and they spent a lot of time today getting dirty in the back yard as they ran around.
We started today with loose leash walking, Heel and Autosit, and Implied Stay. He did well with Heel and he got a couple Autosits without help. Implied Stay will need a bit more work. His self-restraint needs to be nurtured a little. As soon as he is praised or as soon as his handler moves he assumes he is all done and can go play. We will work on this daily while he is here and I hope to see his patience grow fairly quickly as he figures out the right answer.
He is a busy guy so keeping him satisfied and not bored will be a fun challenge. But today was a very good first day for him. Right now he is following my three-year-old around as he plays with his dinosaurs. He is a little intense for the baby (1year old) but she is pretty assertive with him so they should get along fine.
