Chief Board and Train day 1

Chief is a striking young shepherd mix who is here for 7 days of on-leash training. He is a friendly and exuberant boy who has a lot of energy but he is willing to please. He is a willful boy who enjoys doing his own thing and he has learned a lot of little tricks to getting out of doing what he is asked to do. Today he tried everything from trying to tease me into playing with him to back talking and biting the leash. He got frustrated when he realized he couldn't pull and back out of his new slip-chain training collar. He tried that multiple times, to back out of his collar and once he even ended up rolling over and biting his leash (we call this back talking). It was easy to encourage him to get up and keep walking but he was obviously a little frustrated.
He made a friend of Ace the Am. Staff today and they played nicely in the yard. He was a little intimidated by Kylie who is a big and dominant girl. Ace was easier to get along with. They are both more submissive boys who are just hoping to play and romp around.
Today Chief was introduced to Heel/Autosit. He got Heel very quickly and walked nicely at my left side without pulling but the Sit is a different story. He seems to know the word but locks his legs up and argues a little before he sits down. More work on this tomorrow as we find his balance of praise and discipline to help him learn most efficiently. He does enjoy praise and this will help the training go quickly.
