George Board and Train day 1

George (or Georgie as I've found myself calling him) is a handsome, young, mixed breed who is here for a few days of training while his dad is out of town. His people have been dutifully training him during weekly lessons with me and he has come quite far with their direction.
Today I mostly gave him a hard run through of the commands he already knows. Heel, Sit, Down, Stay, Come, all have a foundation for him already so I plan to proof these for him by upping the distractions tomorrow and Friday (like walking him on the bike path, or having him hold a Down/Stay while his girlfriend, Penny, is playing with Ace in the same room). I also plan to introduce Placemat while he is here and work on parking him for longer periods of time.
Placemat is a simple command but it can be taxing for dogs to sit still when there is fun and adventure to be had. George met the house cat today and it took about 4 minutes to get his focus back even after I tossed Kimono to the basement.
I am going to work hard on his walking manners while cars/bikes are going by. George is a very good boy but his weakness sometimes is when cars drive by. He has improved here quite a bit during weekly lessons but why not take the opportunity to walk him around the neighborhood or out at the farm when people are arriving home from work?
Right now Georgie is asleep in his kennel, tuckered from a furious game of chase with Penny and Ace after dinner this evening.

I love this post. George's my furry baby. I'm so proud of his progress even though he has a weakness for cars and bikes. It's the herding breed in him but also dangerous so must be curbed.
