Today we introduced Heel/Autosit and Down. She seems to have a grasp of some of the words, though she isn't sure how or isn't always interested in following direction. She likes to try to cute her way out of doing things by pawing, flirting, and smiling and just being silly instead of working. With well timed correction coupled with calm praise she is learning how to get the attention she wants appropriately. Her praise has to be calm because excited praise tends to send her into a fit of the sillywiggles and it halts productivity. I always enjoy teaching the bully breeds. They are always game for fun and team work with people. Welcome Ginger!
Sweet Ginger is here for 10 days of advanced obedience training. She is a gentle natured but anxious bully-type dog whose anxiety is causing some behavior problems like over-reacting when strange dogs are around and poor leash manners. She enjoys people and would love very much to just be scooped up and carried around, while simultaneously playing a game of rough-and-tumble. We will be introducing her to the pack slowly to allow us to work with her around dogs she doesn't know. However, she has already become friendly with her neighbor, Wallace, who is in the kennel next to her.
