Today we fitted her with a size small pinch collar to fix her leash manners. These collars look harsh but they work well because they use a familiar correction (the feeling of being nipped on the neck) without being uncomfortable to wear if sized correctly. As soon as she understood the collar she quit pulling immediately. This tells me that she was not pulling out of defiance. She was pulling because she is so strong she literally does not realize there is a handler trying to communicate with her on the other end of the leash. Her flat collar was basically an ox yolk she was throwing herself into. By the end of my (short) driveway she was walking with a loose leash and we had a very pleasant walk.
We also introduced Autosit, Implied Stay and Down today. She didn't get very far but she enjoyed working and getting pets. I think this will be a fun week with Penny.
