Maisy had a good day today too. While she is not yet totally reliable off-leash we are making good steps in the right direction. She is just this funny little mix of independent and needy so when she feels like she is done working she just kind of says "peace out!" and wanders away or trots to her kennel. Other times a noise or something spooky or if she just wants a hug she becomes this little velcro dog who I can't seem to shake even if I wanted to (and really, who would want to shake such a sweetie).
Maisy got her first trip to Mass. Street tonight and she did very well. She heeled all the way from south park to 8th street and back and only needed correcting for barking 3 times. Once when a college student was doing some kind of strange windmill dance on the sidewalk, once at a Yorkie who was losing her mind at the end of a 10' retractible leash (insert rant about these terrible leashes here), and once at a woman who stepped out of Sylas and Maddie's unexpectedly. Other than that she walked through the crowded streets, passed a ton of people, and even saw another dog in South Park without barking. I would give her a verbal "no" whenever her ears perked up or she strained on the leash to remind her of her job. I only wish we had passed more dogs than the two we saw. Hopefully on our next field trip we will see more.
Both dogs are exceeding my expectations. Tomorrow I likely won't have time to get Maisy or Rascal into town but we will continue work on obedience.
