So I love Sophie. I have such a soft spot for Golden Retrievers. Their sweet and witty nature is so fun to work with and their affection can’t be beat. Sophie and I became friends quickly today and we started working on her basic obedience. She was introduced to her prong collar today and she wasn’t stressed by the collar but she isn’t a huge fan of not being allowed to pull. Once she even decided to lay down and pretend to die instead of walking politely. When that didn’t work though she got up and walked very nicely. She then realized that by walking nicely and sitting when we stop means getting touched and she was sold after that.
We also introduced the Implied Stay (this one I can tell is gonna be hard for her) and Down. She likes the Down command and I feel like I am gonna struggle keeping her sitting when I need her to.
Sophie is, not surprisingly, getting along famously with the other dogs here. She is being gentle but excitable with the kids but we will work on self restraint this week to curb that enthusiasm.
Goldens are very satisfying to work with and so this should be a fun week with sweet little Sophie. More updates to come!
